Computer and Me

Change is the only thing constant...so i heard and so i believe too...!!

Ever since i joined MBA, one thing that kept me company no matter what, has been my laptop. It has been my faithful companion through the ups & downs and trials & tribulation of my life in Mumbai...

Devil in disguise?

I remember the first heated argument i had with my classmate barely a month after we joined college was because of a laptop!
Thinking about it now, it seems extremely funny and absolutely ridiculous thing to have gotten involved into! ( I think Toshiba did a good work! :P)

Jogging through through the memory lanes, i was trying to remember the time when computer first came to our house. It was simply called Computer then, neither PC nor Desktop. I had not even heard of Laptop until then!

I must have been in 10th grade and the year must have been 1999 when I first saw a computer. It was such a fascinating thing. I was bowled over by its beauty! It was something that I had only seen in school's computer lab until then and we were not even allowed to touch it. I don't remember how much it cost us then, but am sure must have been costly

But as is the case in many fairy tales, where the little princess has to go through grave injustice at home, same happened to me as well; my sisters took full control and did not allow me to come close to the computer. All i was allowed at that point was to look at it and adore it. And the fact that I had the much hyped Xtboard exam did not help things.

So the wait to touch and explore that exquisite thing was long!

Exquisite, is it not?

While my sisters mastered tools like corel draw, photoshop, MS office etc and also learnt to explore the world through internet, i had to wait and look at their radiant and computer literate faces hoping that some day I too will be able to operate this complex thing ALL BY MYSELF!

The first opportunity that I got to officially sit and work on the computer was when I had to  make a report for my chemistry project in 11th grade. I was so happy and was bursting with enthusiasm. But it did not last and the bubble burst! My sister suddenly realized how over-burdened her little sister is and out of kindness and mercy she said that I should study and that she will do the typing of the report and that I should not waste time!

INJUSTICE I CRIED, and my greatest fear of being 'computer illiterate all my life' seemed to come true. What a life threatening scenario! But no one ever heard the voice of poor little kids after 1964 when chacha Nehru passed away! :(

Trust the lord always, for what is meant to be shall be! I did 'learn' how to operate computer finally and used the internet with the slow dial up connection, and of course skyrocketing phone bills. It also so happened that while i was trying to explore and do 'keeda' with the computer, the system crashed! ( And i wondered if the embargo to touch the computer was actually justified! )

The times that went by was indeed funny. What seemed so important and life threatening is just so funny today!

There are other things that are threatening today, again coz of computer. Like constant back ache, headache etc.
Sitting in front of the laptop 24*7, I can now do all the typing of report that I had ever wanted to then! Report after report if I so please!

Times have changed and so have we!
